1st blog entry

My father Captain America Jones passed away on June 2nd 1990.
Every since that time I have wanted to create a documentary about him.
That was over 20 years ago....
During that time, I have thought of many ideas for how I want the documentary to be, in fact so many ideas I have overwhelmed myself with how best to proceed and in turn have paralyzed my efforts to complete the documentary.
The result has been that I have spent a long period of time beating myself up emotionally for not working on the documentary, which has made me into a person who carries around a lot of sadness.

I am sick of being sad and feeling bad for not working on the documentary.
I am thinking that this blog will enable me to stay focused and will help me take baby steps towards accomplishing the goal of completing the documentary about my dad.

I do not know how the documentary will turn out and I do not know what the message will be,
but I am not going to let these unanswered questions prevent me from moving forward.

My plan is to set small goals and hold myself accountable through documenting my progress with this blog.
My first goal was to make a blog entry ... check
Other goals I am working towards:
Improve the layout/look of this blog
Create a new website for captainamericajones.com
an oh so many more, but I don't want to overwhelm myself just yet.

  1. Dear Jenny, After my relationship tanked as I continued to stay focused on what I thought was a shared dream of homownership and re-model design, only to realize what I thought I wanted wasn't quite making me happy the way I had envisioned. I asked some long term, I assume, happily married real DO'er friends of mine, how they manage such projects, and seemingly not distress over them. And my friend responded, "Molly if we don't have a deadline, it relieves that stress. There's nothing to fight about then." Try some of this wisdom. The Documentary will make itself. It may take decades. You will learn much. Regardless, if its from you, it will be remarkable.

  2. Hi Jenn! I recently found a book your dad self-published at an antiques store in Iowa. I am a documentary film producer and would love to speak with you. Let me know the best way to contact you.

  3. Hi Jenn! I knew your Dad growing up. We shared the same aunt and uncle and three first cousins in Anthon, Iowa. Your Dad visited Anthon often and I closely followed the many interesting things that he did. I will never forget your Dad. He lives on in my mind and will always be a truly amazing young man to me.
