A fond memory of Captain America Jones

I have a website out referencing my dad, I am always surprised at the letters I have received from people who have written to me after recalling an experience they have had with Alan Jones then googled him, found my website and then shared their memories.
The following is an email I received, which brought back memories of my dad, reminding me, with the greatest love in my heart, of all the unique and memorable experience I have shared with my Dad.
Here is a cut and paste of this man's experience.

I had an experience with your dad back in the early 80s.

I was hitchhiking from Ellensburg Washington to Seattle one afternoon when I was about 19 years old.  A corvette pulled up with this guy with a beard and I hopped in.  We talked  for a little while, then he asked if I would mind if he picked up some beer.  No problem, I said.  He got some beer at a gas station in Cle Ellem Wa.  When he got out of the car and walked into the store to get the beer, I noticed that his thighs (He was wearing shorts) were like those of a speed skater or a professional football lineman, they were like stumps.  I remember being surprised by it because he just looked like a regular guy sitting in the drivers seat, I had assumed he was an office worker of something.  When he got back to the car, I asked him if he worked out a lot.  He laughed and said, yeah.  We started drinking beer.  He told me that his wife was a professional hydroplane racer, and had broken the world record for situps during a Seahawks game in the kingdome. A car dealership somewhere in eastern Washington, cant remember which town it was, had given her the corvette to use.  He said he volunteered to go and pick it up for her.  Cool, I said.  He told me that he was the public relations guy for some fitness company.  He looked vaguely familiar.  He was a really cool guy.

I have never before or since met a person who could consume so much beer in as little time as this guy did.  In the 45 minutes it took to drive to Snoqualmie pass, he drank 9 beers.  Between the top of Snoqualmie pass and Bellevue where he dropped me off, he drank at least ten more.  I drank 3 or 4 over the whole trip.  The beer had no apparent effect on him.  He was very cool about everything and we actually had a pretty good time driving over. I remember thinking that his wife might kill him coming home stinking of beer with her new corvette.  When he dropped me off, he gave me $10.  Back then that was a lot of money to just give to a hitchhiker. He insisted I take it because he had to drop me off right on the freeway, because he was really in a hurry.  I walked to a bus stop and caught a bus to my house in Seattle.

The next night my roomie and I were watching TV and a Captain America Jones commercial came on.  That's where I had seen him before.  Back then his fitness commercials were on a lot.

That is about how I remember it.  I have been telling that story to people since it happened around 1982 or so.

You can ask me more if need be, but that is how I remember it.

back in town, awhile ago...

I don't want to avoid the blog because I haven't done anything..
Since I wrote last I viewed the digital archives I recently had converted.
I thought about the advice my friend Mike gave to me.
I changed the contact "send to email" on the current website I have for Captain America Jones.
I have been obsessed with apps, production apps, since I got the ipad 2.
I think this is somehow helping me with the doc.
It's all about archiving.
My friend Kris Olmsted gave me the BEST advice!!!
Remember, it's the journey not the end result.
The best advice from a mom to be!

Update of to do's efforts before leaving town.

I just arrive in New Zealand today, before I get absorbed with work for the next two weeks, I wanted to list out a few accomplishments that occurred before leaving town.
1. I met with my friend Julie to discuss thoughts for the new website, Julie has the skills to help customize, develop and post the new website.
2. I had Victory Studio digitize video and film tapes I have of my dad.
3. I paid King T.V. a search fee to source any archived material they may have on Captain America Jones.
They found media on the parachute jump and will be sending the video to me to see.
4. My friends Mike and Drew helped me organize all of the photos I have of my dad, which also lead to  helpful discussions about what they found to be interesting and why.
5. I've had some great conversations with two creative friends Mike and Liz, both of whom provided me with great insight on how to best proceed with the focus for the documentary.
6. I have been going to boxing fitness classes, the classes involve various isometric exercises sit-ups, push-ups, jumping jacks, jump rope, all of these exercises make me think of and feel connected to my dad.
The classes also help to keep me feeling balanced, calm and focused.

Working on the website - link to templates

I want to update the Captain America Jones website.
I want to use Iweb so I can update the site myself and I like the clean simple look.
I scanned a few photos and pulled them into the template.
I'm looking at 5 words and one picture and can not believe, how I just inspired myself to keep going.
I've been working on webpage templates for hours, scanning pictures and just putting them with the words
"Captain America Jones - the documentary".
I can't believe how satisfying it is to scan in my dad's photos and put them into the template.
Here is a link to some of those templates.
These are not completed webpages, just getting started with ideas.

1st blog entry

My father Captain America Jones passed away on June 2nd 1990.
Every since that time I have wanted to create a documentary about him.
That was over 20 years ago....
During that time, I have thought of many ideas for how I want the documentary to be, in fact so many ideas I have overwhelmed myself with how best to proceed and in turn have paralyzed my efforts to complete the documentary.
The result has been that I have spent a long period of time beating myself up emotionally for not working on the documentary, which has made me into a person who carries around a lot of sadness.

I am sick of being sad and feeling bad for not working on the documentary.
I am thinking that this blog will enable me to stay focused and will help me take baby steps towards accomplishing the goal of completing the documentary about my dad.

I do not know how the documentary will turn out and I do not know what the message will be,
but I am not going to let these unanswered questions prevent me from moving forward.

My plan is to set small goals and hold myself accountable through documenting my progress with this blog.
My first goal was to make a blog entry ... check
Other goals I am working towards:
Improve the layout/look of this blog
Create a new website for captainamericajones.com
an oh so many more, but I don't want to overwhelm myself just yet.
